Scans don't flag anything
Private Roll uses Apple's on-device Sensitive Content Analysis, which iOS only runs when Sensitive Content Warning is turned on. It's off by default for adults, and while it's off, scans can't flag anything. To turn it on:
- Open Settings › Privacy & Security.
- Tap Sensitive Content Warning.
- Turn it on, then come back to Private Roll and run the scan again.
Private Roll's Settings screen shows whether the setting is on. Also check that Private Roll can access your photos (Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos), because it can only scan the photos you've allowed.
Keep in mind that detection only covers potentially sensitive images (nudity), and it isn't perfect: it can miss photos or flag ones that aren't sensitive. Documents, IDs, and medical photos are not detected, but you can move any photo into a Private Space yourself.
Restoring your Pro purchase
Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account, so you never need to pay again on a new or reset iPhone. To restore it:
- In Private Roll, open Settings and tap Restore Purchase, or
- Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore Purchase at the bottom.
Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy Pro. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple; for refund requests, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Deleting originals vs. protected copies
Moving a photo to a Private Space creates a protected copy inside Private Roll. The original stays in Apple Photos, and in iCloud Photos and shared albums if you use them, until you delete it.
- Delete the original: Private Roll shows whether each original is still in Photos and offers Delete Original from Photos. iOS asks you to confirm every deletion. Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days; empty Recently Deleted there if you want them gone sooner.
- Delete a protected copy: open the photo in its Private Space and tap Delete Copy. This only removes the copy inside Private Roll; it doesn't touch your Photos library.
Protected copies are excluded from iCloud and computer backups, so they aren't restored to a new iPhone from a backup. Once you've deleted an original, the protected copy may be your only copy, and deleting the app or wiping its data removes it for good. If you need to keep a photo long term, back up the original somewhere you control before deleting it from Photos.
Clearing or wiping local data
Everything Private Roll stores is on your iPhone. In Private Roll's Settings:
- Clear Scan Cache deletes saved scan results. Photos will be analyzed again next time you scan.
- Wipe All Local Data permanently deletes all scan records, Private Spaces, and protected copies stored in the app. This can't be undone.
Deleting the app also deletes all of its data. Neither option affects the photos in your Apple Photos library.
