This policy explains how the Private Roll iPhone app ("the app") handles information. The app is made by an independent developer, referred to here as "the Private Roll developer", "we", or "us".
In short: the app analyzes your photos on your iPhone, keeps everything it stores on your iPhone, and sends nothing to us. We do not collect personal data through the app.
Summary
- No account and no sign-in.
- No Private Roll servers. Your photos, thumbnails, and scan results are never uploaded to us.
- No analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or other third-party SDKs, and no tracking.
- Everything the app stores stays on your device, and you can delete it at any time.
What the app accesses
Your photo library
With your permission, the app reads the photos in your library so it can analyze them, show them to you, and save protected copies of the photos you choose. You decide whether to give Full Access or Limited Access (only the photos you select), and you can change or remove access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.
If a photo is stored in iCloud Photos and its full data isn't on your iPhone, iOS may download it from iCloud so it can be analyzed on your device. That download is performed by Apple's Photos framework under your iCloud account; nothing passes through us.
If you choose to delete an original photo from the app, iOS asks you to confirm, and the photo moves to Recently Deleted in Apple Photos, where it stays for 30 days unless you empty it.
On-device analysis
Photos are analyzed on your iPhone by Apple's Sensitive Content Analysis framework, which flags potentially sensitive images (nudity). iOS only performs this analysis when you have turned on Sensitive Content Warning in Settings › Privacy & Security. The app checks whether that setting is on so it can tell you whether detection is available.
Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode
Before showing a flagged photo or opening a Private Space, the app asks iOS to confirm it's you. Authentication is handled entirely by iOS. The app only learns whether authentication succeeded and never has access to your face, fingerprint, or passcode data.
What the app stores, and where
All of the following is stored only on your iPhone, inside the app's private storage:
- Scan results: for each analyzed photo, its identifier in your photo library, media type, creation date, when it was analyzed, and the result (whether it was flagged, and whether you reviewed it or marked it safe).
- Private Spaces and protected copies: the folders you use and copies of the photos you choose to save in them, along with whether each original is still in your library.
- Checklist progress: which checklist steps you've ticked off.
- App preferences: a small number of settings, such as whether you've completed onboarding and which date range you scan.
Scan results, checklist progress, and protected copies are excluded from iCloud and computer backups. Protected copies are saved with iOS Data Protection (complete protection), so they can't be read while your iPhone is locked. App preferences are stored in standard iOS app settings, which iOS may include in your device backups; they contain no photos or scan results.
Because protected copies are excluded from backups, they are not restored to a new iPhone from a backup. If you delete an original photo after saving a protected copy, that copy may be the only one left.
Deleting your data
- Settings › Clear Scan Cache deletes all scan results.
- Settings › Wipe All Local Data deletes scan results, Private Spaces, and all protected copies stored in the app. This can't be undone.
- Deleting a protected copy inside a Private Space removes that copy.
- Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
We don't hold any of your app data, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side, and we can't access or recover your data for you.
Information we collect
The Private Roll developer does not collect, receive, or store personal data through the app. The app has no account system, no server, no analytics, no advertising, and no crash reporting of its own. It does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell or share any data.
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may provide us with crash reports and aggregated usage statistics. That sharing is controlled by you and handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Purchases
Private Roll is free to download. Private Roll Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your name, payment details, or Apple Account information. The app checks whether Pro is unlocked using Apple's StoreKit on your device, and Apple's privacy policy applies to purchases and restores.
Third parties
The app includes no third-party SDKs or services. It uses Apple's own system frameworks, such as Photos, Sensitive Content Analysis, Face ID and Touch ID, and StoreKit, and it relies on iCloud Photos if you use it. Apple's handling of data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy
Private Roll is not directed to children. Because the app collects no personal data, it does not collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. Because the app sends us no data, we hold none from your use of the app. For anything you've sent us by email, contact us and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if the app gains new features. The current version will always be on this page with its effective date. If a change affects how your information is handled, we'll describe it here before it takes effect.
